Why Quality Sports Infrastructure Matters: The Role Of Universities In Shaping National Athletes

Giving back to the country is, fundamentally, part of the role of universities-a role that has gone beyond being mere centers of academe. Young athletes are honed here, develop a sense of discipline, and aim high for national and international success. Case in point was Stanford University when it bagged a phenomenal 39 medals at the just-concluded Paris Olympics. As we go marching towards the Los Angeles Olympics of 2028, to be held by two universities, it would be pretty much clear enough that institutions like these universities have always been one of the greatest contributors to the world of sports development. Even in India, universities like Lovely Professional University (LPU) and many others have, time and again, proven that focusing on sports could make them champions globally.

Another great incubators of athletic talent are India’s Defence Colleges. The NDA, the IMA, along with some other institutions, have significantly contributed to India’s sport accomplishment by consistently sending their athletes to compete both at national and international levels. The colleges train not only future military leaders but also world-class athletes, for in these colonies of discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness, it all comes together.
